YouTube, the popular video-sharing platform, is reportedly testing a new experimental AI-powered “Ask” button that will allow Premium subscribers to pose questions related to the video content they are viewing and receive real-time responses.
YouTube’s New AI Chatbot To Answer Queries About Videos
Currently, the new experimental AI feature is available only to select YouTube users on Android who are Premium subscribers who are 18 years or older and based in the United States.
Once the feature is enabled in Settings, the new “Ask” button will appear beneath eligible videos. However, upon tapping the button for the first time, users will have to agree to Google’s generative AI terms of service.
With the ‘Ask’ feature, users can effortlessly type out questions about the video they are watching or choose from a variety of pre-set prompts. Whether they are seeking summaries or related content recommendations, or they have their own specific queries, the AI will process both the video content and the query, offering seamless recommendations without interrupting the user’s video playback. It even engages viewers with quizzes when they are watching educational videos.
YouTube is offering this new experimental AI feature for a limited time. However, it’s important to note that this opportunity is only available until May 1, 2024. Please be aware that the ‘Ask’ feature is currently only functional for videos in the English language and does not work on non-English language videos or music videos.
