Microsoft has reportedly pulled off the $1 Xbox Game Pass 14-day trial from stores before the highly anticipated launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on October 25th, 2024.

This strategic timing is similar to what the Redmond giant applied before the release of Bethesda’s Starfield in September 2023. The company has been following this pattern of adjusting Game Pass offers around its high-profile game launches.

With the removal of the $1 Xbox Game Pass 14-day trial, players who want to access Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on launch via Game Pass will now have to subscribe for the full Game Pass Ultimate pass, which is priced at $20 per month. The move is intended to encourage users to opt for the higher-tier subscription to access these major games.

For those unaware, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is an upcoming first-person shooter game published by Activision. It is the seventh entry in the Black Ops sub-series, following Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (2020).

Set in 1991, Black Ops 6 follows rogue operatives Troy Marshall and Frank Woods as they collect a team of agents to track down Pantheon, a covert force that has infiltrated the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Pantheon has labeled anyone opposing them as traitors to the United States.

Alongside the single-player campaign, Black Ops 6 will also include multiplayer with competitive modes, large-scale battles, and the cooperative round-based Zombies mode, where players face off against groups of the undead in cooperative play.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is scheduled to release on October 25, 2024. The Game Pass tier options that grant access to Black Ops 6 on the day of launch are the $19.99 per month Game Pass Ultimate and the $11.99 per month PC Game Pass for PC gamers. However, the $14.99 per month Xbox Game Pass Standard tier does not include day-one releases, which means it won’t include Black Ops 6 at launch.

Further, the gaming title will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Those who have already pre-purchased Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 can start downloading the game on Monday, October 21st, beginning at 9:00 AM PT. This pre-load time applies to all game versions across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. Additionally, Activision has confirmed that the download will include all content from Black Ops 6, covering the Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies modes.
