A recently uncovered bug has led Microsoft to temporarily pause the Windows 11 2024 Update (version 24H2) rollout on some affected PCs.

According to a new notification released on the Windows health status dashboard, the Redmond giant says the devices running the Voicemeeter application face issues after installing Windows 11, version 24H. They are throwing a Blue screen of death (BSOD) with an error message indicating a MEMORY MANAGEMENT error.

“This issue is caused due to the incompatibility of VoiceMeeter’s driver with the latest Memory manager,” wrote the company in the Windows health status dashboard.

To safeguard users’ update experience, Microsoft has applied a compatibility hold on devices using the Voicemeeter application. These devices will not be offered to install Windows 11, version 24H2, via the Windows Update release channel.

For those unaware, Voicemeeter is an Audio Mixer Application developed by VB-Audio Software. It is equipped with a Virtual Audio Device that can be used as Virtual I/O to mix and manage audio sources from or to other audio devices or applications.

The compatibility issue only affects client systems running Windows 11 version 24H2, not older versions of Windows 11 and Windows 10.

Microsoft strongly recommends that the affected users do not attempt to manually update to version 24H2 using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or the media creation tool until this issue has been resolved.

VB-Audio Software is currently working on a fix to resolve the driver compatibility issue, but it is unclear how many days it will take to complete. Microsoft says it will provide updated information on the issue when it is available.
