These days, you have hundreds of apps to make payments or recharge your mobile. Now it looks like WhatsApp joined the race to become a super-app for everyday essentials.

Yes, WhatsApp just got a new feature that lets you do mobile recharges. Previously, it supported scanning UPI QR code, paying with any mobile number, and viewing account balance; now it also lets you do mobile recharges.

The new WhatsApp Payment features allow you to add your bank account to pay anyone on Google Pay, Paytm, Phonepe, and more. For that, you will have to link your bank account first.

The new feature, the mobile recharges, is powered by PayU, and it’s rolling out in phases across Android and iOS. The feature is expected to reach all users within a few weeks.

How to Recharge Your Phone using WhatsApp

To access the new feature, you will first have to update the WhatsApp app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Once updated, launch the app.

1. Update the WhatsApp app on your Android/iPhone.

2. Once updated, launch the app.

3. You will notice a small rupee icon at the top right corner of the screen.

4. Tap on it to open WhatsApp Payments.

5. Now you will have to tap the Add bank account button. Link your bank account.

6. Once linked, you will be able to scan the UPI QR Code and pay with your phone number. 8. You can also check your account balance.

7. For mobile recharge, just tap on ‘Mobile Recharge’ and pick the number.

WhatsApp previously supported payments, bill payments, and metro ticket bookings. Now it has the mobile recharge support as well. So, basically, WhatsApp is planning to become an all-in-one app for everyday tasks.
